(You hadn't used Bootcamp 2.0 (included w/OS X Leopard) previously?-Mike) I then used software update and updated bootcamp to version 2.1 without a problem.-Willy""Installed the BootCamp 2.1 Win XP version Update on my MacBook Pro 2.6 GHx (MacBookPro3,1) running MacOS 10.5.x and VMWare Fusion 1.1.2. I installed from within BootCamp Win XP and not from within the VW. The install went perfectly, not one problem. Upon launching my VM, Fusion Tools updated automatically.-Jack M."Using win XP on mac Pro early 2008 with nvidia 8800GT provided by Apple after problems with ATI.Installation went smoothly, however I am seeing severe banding on the desktop, which previously was pretty smooth. (check your video mode/color depth and verify the 8800GT is properly recognized and not using a generic driver-Mike) I am using a simple gradient with no pictures.-Fred"I asked if he could check the version of the Nvidia drivers installed (Nvidia frequently updates their forceware drivers - I suspect there will always be later versions than apple includes with bootcamp.)"Hey Mike, I installed Bootcamp 2.1 on my 2007 Mac Pro running Windows XP and the only problem I had so far is that Bootcamp replaced my Nvidia driver that I had finally gotten installed for my new (1st gen mac pro kit) Geforce 8800GT, so when I rebooted Windows once again my Geforce wasn't recognized. I had to re-install the video card driver software using the Forceware driver since I still couldn't get the Official Nvidia drivers to recognize the new Apple Geforce 8800gt. Aside from this issue, everything else seems to be fine!-Douglas"I'm beginning to think the 1st gen Mac Pro 8800GT card has a different ID than usual, as previous reports from 1st Gen Mac Pro owners also noted having to install beta Nvidia drivers. (Ref: posts in Monday's and Tuesday's news pages.) Several people are reporting problems installing the Bootcamp 2.1 updates (at least from the download installers)"I tried to install the Bootcamp 2.1 update for Windows XP on my MacBookPro2,1 17", 2.33GHz.The installer quits without even reporting an error. Tried several time to install, same story: no success.Best wishes, Willy"See above for Willy's later comments/fix."Attempted to install boot camp 2.1 on Vista 32 on MacBookPro 1,1 with the proper vista 32 stand alone installer and it was not installable what so ever. Just erratically reported an error stating it cannot be installed do to a pending restart needing to be completed first, despite how many restarts are made, installer is bugged and things there is a restart waiting that is not. Clearly apple's QA has completely failed to catch all the issues with this update, as just about every comment on VT and macupdate says about same thing, failure to install from some error or another using stand alones. However I do not wish to try to re-download using software update on my very slow internet connection to have that fail too...-Adam"I'm not using Bootcamp/Windows but welcome feedback on Bootcamp 2.1 from readers. Let me know what you've seen (problems, pros or cons) and if you used the download installer or not. (Per Apple the Bootcamp 2.1 update is required for XP SP3.) Same price as the Apple Store $279 but not sure if Nvidia charges sales tax. (Nvidia site not selling the 8800GT for early 2008 Mac Pros - link for that goes to the Apple store.) O'ConnorOther World Computing" More feedback on 1st Gen Mac Pro w/8800GT card - "I ordered the Apple (1st gen Mac Pro) Nvidia 8800GT on the 15th. It arrived on the 22nd and is installed. My 1900 was getting veryannoyingso it was replaced with a 2600 after the 2008 Mac Pros were announced with the expectation that a (1st Gen Mac Pro compatible) 8800GT would eventually become available. So I now own a 7300, X1900, 2600 and 8800GT. The 2600 is installed in slot 4, the 8800GT in slot 1, and the 7300 and X1900 are in the closet where they both belong, albeit for different reasons. The 7300 because it is a dog and the X1900 because it kills Aperture and the video artifacts are annoying. All the upgrades were bought to boost Aperture performance and with the exception of the 2600 regressing somewhat re: the X1900 I am happy with where I am at. On the other hand, Aperture still isn't completely human paced so if something faster comes down the line I'll probably buy one of those as well. The Mac Pro has 16GB of RAM and a 750GB WD AAKS + three WD 500GB AAKS. The 750GB is partitioned into 250GB and 500GB volumes. The optical drives have been replaced with Samsung SATA drives using the (2 spare) built in SATA ports on the Motherboard. External SATA uses a FirmTek adapter. The 8800GT drives a pair of NEC 2690s at 1920x1200 and the 2600 has been relegated to supply a Dell 2005 at 1650x1080 displaying XP windows under VMWare Focus.Everything is good except Aperture does not like having the third monitor. It treats the third monitor as a clone of the second monitor which is not at all the desired behavior. Plus with three monitors Aperture fails frequently. Pulling the cable from the monitormakes all that go away.Any knowledge of software that would "simulate" pulling the cable out or better yet constrain Aperture to just a Primary ad Secondary monitor would be appreciated.-Joe N."I don't know of any software to do that but if anyone does let me know. Maybe a KVM switch? (But unless you really needed the extra display I'd just pull the card...)
